Mr Prime Minister, Mr Ambassador, Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you for your presence here today, to celebrate an event of high importance, both for the Renault Group and for the county and national car industry. Three years ago, it was decided that a new state-of-the-art gearbox plant be opened in Romania, a plant that would meet the needs of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Today, that plant is an established fact: Renault Mécanique Roumanie is open for those of you willing to discover it. This new production capacity is a byword for the confidence invested by the Renault Group in Romania, in the country’s leaders, in the skill of its men and women and in the key position that Romania holds in the Group’s strategy. Equally, the plant is a testimony of the flawless collaboration established between the Renault Group and the Romanian state: in July 2005, the Prime Minister had undertaken to support our project, in the name of the Romanian Government. Today he joins us on the inauguration of the RMR plant; furthermore, today at 1 pm, we will receive an 18-million euros transfer as the first part of the support granted by the Romanian state. Alongside DACIA, Renault Industrie Roumanie, Renault Technologie Roumanie and the future design centre, the plant we open today reinforces Renault’s presence in Romania. Not only does the presence of Renault in Romania create new jobs, but it strongly impacts the commercial balance of the country, with 100% of the plant’s production being exported. It is a presence that enhances the image of Romania as a technology-based country. With Renault Mécanique Roumanie, the investments of the Group in Romania have exceeded 1.2 billion Euros.
