Dacia Sandero was chosen “Car of the Year 2009 in Romania” in the annual competition held by the Romanian Automotive Press Association (RAPA). The award festivity was broadcast live this Thursday, 11 December, on the public television, the TVR1.
The jury, made up of automotive journalists, assessed and tested the 10 models nominated in the finals: Citroen C 5, Ford Kuga, Skoda Superb, Opel Insignia, Hyundai i10, Volkswagen Golf 6, Renault Koleos, Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Dacia Sandero. The winning model was decided by the votes of the 20 journalists members of the RAPA, with a final score of 203 points. Dan Vardie, president of the jury, awarded the prize to François Fourmont, CEO of Dacia. „This prize comes at an extremely difficult moment for the automotive industry in Romania. Having chosen Dacia Sandero as the winner the “Car of the year 2009” award proves that the Romanian automotive press understands the hardships facing the industry and offers its support to the development of the national car market.” declared Dan Vardie on the same live show. The RAPA chose Christian Estève for the “Man of the Decade” special award for his 10-year contribution to making Dacia a successful company. Christian Estève is the leader of the Euromed region and the President of the Dacia Administrative Board. Liviu Ion, the Communications Director of the Renault Group in Romania received the RAPA “PR of the Year” award. Constantin Stroe, Vice president of the Dacia Administrative Board, and Jacques Daniel, Director of the Dacia Commercial Direction, also took part to the festivity. The winner of the Dacia Sandero, Vasile Costin, was named at the end of the Award Festivity. His name was drawn from the 5,017 names of viewers who had voted Dacia Sandero as the winner of the competition. With over 18,000 Romanian participants, the competition was organised by the TVR1 and the RAPA on the Internet site of the public television. Dacia Sandero was launched on the Romanian market in June 2008, soon after its revelation at the Geneva Motor Show, in March 2008. Sandero is the fifth model of the Dacia product lineup, already comprising two personal vehicles, the Logan sedan and the Logan MCV, and two utility vehicles, the Logan VAN and the Logan Pick-Up. More than 53 000 units have been produced until now.
